Fitness is a way to celebrate and thank your body. It’s not only good for your mind, it boosts your mental and emotional well-being, improves sleep, and increases motivation, too.
Here are some ways to help you feel motivated to move your body.
- Make it fun! Get creative and center movement around something you enjoy, like taking a class, walking the dog, listening to a podcast or music that pumps you up.
- Create tiny habits and build on them over time. Start with something so small that you can do it every day to make it a habit.
- Track your progress and reward yourself. Keep an activity log or use a fitness app. Set goals for yourself and remember to reward yourself in a meaningful way each time you achieve a goal.
- Be flexible and self-kind. Don’t let perfection impede progress and remember, it’s more of a back-and-forth dance to success as opposed to a straight line.
- Think of exercise as a healthy lifestyle, not just workouts. Make exercise a part of your life and not something you’re checking off your list.
- Do it for a cause. Sign up for a walk to support a cause that’s important to you, so the exercise ultimately benefits others, too.
- Be creative with measurements. Consider how you’re feeling vs. the number on the scale or the measuring tape.
- Know your “why?” How would your life be different if you were more fit?
- Prepare your environment. For example, set clothes out the night before a morning workout to reduce obstacles to exercise.
- Grab a friend. Exercise doesn't have to be a solitary activity. In fact, it could be a great time to get social and share the fun with family or friends!
